Jeff
Garza was recently appointed Principal Horn of the Oregon Symphony, a position
he will assume in September 2020. He is currently Principal Horn of the San
Antonio Symphony and the Britt Festival Orchestra and is the Artistic Director
of Olmos Ensemble. Jeff has previously held principal positions with the
Houston Grand Opera, Utah Festival Opera and Festival Mozaic Orchestra, and has
served as guest principal horn in dozens of orchestras including the Los
Angeles Philharmonic, Cincinnati Symphony, Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Utah
Symphony, New Zealand Symphony, Malaysian Philharmonic and Melbourne Symphony.
Jeff has held fellowship positions with the New World Symphony, Tanglewood
Music Center, National Repertory Orchestra, and the Jerusalem International
Symphony Orchestra. Jeff regularly performs and tours with the San Francisco
Symphony and was an acting member of the orchestra during the 2016-17 season.
In 2019, he participated in the live concert film “S&M2: Metallica and
the San Francisco Symphony” which was screened in movie theaters
worldwide.
Jeff has appeared as a
soloist with the San Antonio Symphony, the Britt Festival Orchestra, and the
Festival Mozaic Orchestra and has been a featured artist at music festivals,
horn workshops and chamber music series throughout the United States including
the Menlo School Summer Brass Institute, Chamber Music International, Concordia
Chamber Players, Cape Cod Chamber Music Festival, Cactus Pear Music Festival
and the Texas Music Festival. He is Artistic Director and a core member of the
Olmos Ensemble, a chamber music group made up of San Antonio Symphony principal
musicians.
Jeff earned a Bachelor of
Music degree from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music and is an alumnus
of the Interlochen Center for the Arts where he was awarded an Emerson
Scholarship and the Young Artist Certificate, Interlochen Arts Academy’s
highest artistic honor.
Jeff teaches privately at
his home studio and has served on the faculty at Brevard Music Center, St.
Mary’s University and Trinity University.
